Open source, self-hosting and internal use stay free. Hyper Compress is licensed under the AGPL-3.0. If your project is AGPL-compatible, or you run Hyper Compress as-is for yourself, you never need a commercial license. Commercial licenses are only for shipping Hyper Compress inside closed-source software.

Commercial license details

Delivery & licensing model

  • No license key is required or provided. Hyper Compress intentionally does not use license keys, to streamline deployment and reduce operational friction.

  • Because Hyper Compress is open source, every release and every update can always be downloaded from our GitHub releases page.
  • The source code provided is identical to the code published in our public open-source repository.
  • No refunds. Under no circumstances shall a refund be made after purchase.

Invoicing

  • Polar handles VAT invoices for businesses in applicable regions.
  • For VAT invoices, select "I'm purchasing as a business" during checkout and enter your billing address and Tax/VAT number.

What each tier covers

Every tier lets you ship Hyper Compress inside one closed-source product. The tiers differ by who you are, how many developers you have, and whether Hyper Compress is passed on to anyone else.

Solo Indie Business OEM
Who it's for One developer, under $100k annual revenue Companies under $1M annual revenue Companies at $1M annual revenue or more Anyone redistributing, reselling or hosting the engine

Redistribute inside someone else's product
Resell as an SDK
Offer Hyper Compress as a hosted service

Redistribution, reselling and hosting are what separate OEM from the rest. If Hyper Compress only ships inside your own closed-source product, the choice between Solo, Indie and Business is purely a question of your size.

License Terms

Per product

A license covers one shipped product. A second product needs a second license, or ask about covering your whole catalogue at OEM.

Updates included

Every release published while your license is active is yours. If you let it lapse, you keep a perpetual right to the last version you received.

No AGPL obligations

The commercial license replaces the AGPL for your product. You ship closed source, with no requirement to publish your changes or your application.

Clean provenance

Hyper Compress is written and owned by BentoPDF, and every third-party component it bundles, including PDFium, qpdf, jpegli and Leptonica, is permissively licensed. No copyleft surprises in your supply chain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only if you ship Hyper Compress inside closed-source software. Open-source projects under an AGPL-compatible license, self-hosting, and internal use are all free under the AGPL-3.0.

No. Hyper Compress is a separate project with its own license. The BentoPDF app license does not grant any rights to Hyper Compress, and a Hyper Compress license does not cover BentoPDF.

You move up to the matching tier at your next renewal. Nothing retroactive. Growing past a threshold mid-term never invalidates your current license.
